With a background
in fashion design and a love of color and texture, especially in ceramics and textiles, Andrea's first mosaics were inspired
by a craft magazine in 1995, beginning a long love of mosaics that continues to this day. Originally using
cast-off broken tiles from area tile retailers to make flower pots and mirrors, she developed her unique style
in 2001 of cut tile letters and custom cut mosaic designs. Many of the pieces are bordered with cut and
broken tiles, handmade tiles, glass, shells, marbles, stones, dishes, buttons and other objects. Plaques
are weather-resistant and last many years inside or outside under porch cover. Past projects have included mirrors from
broken heirloom dishes, restoration of vintage mosaics and installations in homes, businesses and churches. See
Mosaics Gallery.
Andrea learned to weave at age nine on a frame loom, continued to weave textiles in college, and later
as an artist-in-residence at the Southwest School of Art in San Antonio. Her scarves are of mixed warp yarns and
variegated weft yarns that reflect her love for color and texture. See Textiles Gallery.
Andrea and her husband, Gary, live in the Texas Hill Country and have two college-age
children. She works at home with a cat or two at her side.
